St. Peter’s Church of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tarvastu

There are no exact data about the time the church was built, but it is believed that it was built in the 13th century, at the same time as Tarvastu Castle. The church, which was damaged in various wars and then rebuilt, got its current appearance in the 19th century, when the church, which was ignited by lightning, was restored in the neo-Gothic style under the leadership of teacher Michael Jürmann. He also gave the church a marble altar table. Today, above the altar wall in the church, visitors are greeted by two life-size angels, which create a warm feeling. Good to know: * the spire is decorated with a gilded cross * the church has a powerful sounding organ, made by organ master August Terkman
